Thursday 10 th December 2009

Dear Parents,

As the year draws to an end and the festive season is almost upon us, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continuing support as we strive to make Avi-Cenna the School of choice for all our students and parents. It is the time of year for reflection on what has already been, and also to look towards the future with a renewed sense of purpose and dynamism.

Please note that School will close for all students at 12.35pm on Thursday 17 th December . Parents Day will take place on Friday 18 th December between 8.30am and 1 pm . This is an ideal opportunity to receive School reports and discuss students’ progress directly with their teachers. Please do try to attend. Students accompanying parents should do so in full school uniform.

We look forward to greeting you all again on the other side of the New Year when School resumes on Monday 11 th January 2010. Boarding students should arrive back by 7.00pm on Sunday 10 th January.

Cinderella will go to the ball next week as the end of term production rounds of the school year. There will be two performances. The first showing will be for the whole School and will take place at 11.00am on Wednesday 16 th December . The second showing will be for parents and family and will start promptly at 5.30pm on Thursday 17 th December . I hope to see as many parents as possible attending to support our budding thespians.

All co-curricular activities will finish on Thursday 10 th December . Please remember to collect students promptly when they are finished with their studies for the day.

Parents who have not yet collected their ordered copies of the School panoramic photograph should collect them from the School Store.

Please spare a thought during the festive period for our students in Years 11, 12 and 13, as they need to use this time profitably revising ahead of their mock examinations beginning Monday 18 th January 2010. Please remember that the mock results will form the basis for the predicted grades that will accompany university and college applications.

We now also have the final examination costs from Cambridge . The deadline for all submissions to the British Council is 8 th February 2010 . Any late entries will attract additional costs. Full details will be posted to parents individually.

As always, the vacation period is a good time to replace, renew or upsize school uniform. Please make sure that all blazer badges are properly sown onto the top pocket and name labels are attached to all school clothing and belongings. This makes recognition and return of lost property much easier.

The Ski Trip will now definitely take place during the February half-term based on the numbers I already have. There are just a couple more spaces available. If you are interested please see me in School. I need have to full payment by Thursday 17 th December 2009 so that I can consolidate the booking and purchase flight tickets etc. Likewise, please see Mrs. Adesanya for information about the Primary School’s visit to Ghana .

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered their services to teach at the chalk face for Teachers’ Appreciation Day on Monday 14 th December . If you have volunteered and not yet received details about timetables and topics, please see Mr. Olubajo or Mrs. Adesanya in School. We look forward to having you in School on that day. Please note that School will close at 12.35pm on Monday.

On behalf of the school management and staff, I would like to wish all a very merry Christmas and happy and prosperous New Year!

David Ogburn
